Renovation plan for Naavapolku
Cake

"A cake is something that you share with others. It contains different layers that together create the full experience."

The brief was to create a concept of a whole renovation plan of the social housing in Naavapolku, Helsinki, to make the apartments more rentable. Our focus was to create a concept that could be applied to Naavapolku, but also other social housing complexes. We believed that the biggest issue was to create a feeling of belonging and a community where you felt supportive and safe. Our proposal, therefore, included everything from how the apartments were furnished, to the sharing spaces outdoors with your neighbours and how we would bring more people to the area in general. To be able to create a safe and including atmosphere, all the parts needed to go well together.

This proposal was chosen as the "Client's choice" if it would have been realized.

LOCATION: Social housing area in Naavapolku 1-4, Malminkartano, Helsinki, Finland. 51 duplex apartments.
PARTNERS: Red Cross Finland, NAAL, Y-Säätiö, Aalto University.
